I select very well the buyers of my puppies. I try to teach them about the responsability of owning a schnauzer. I prefer people who loves their dogs as companion dogs and also are interested in showing them on the shows. Puppies from our kennel are available max. once  a year. Our puppies are  nursed at home with maximal care, they are well socialized. In the term of picking up, they will be vaccinaded and un-wormed of course. In my breeding program Iīm trying to keep the best qualities that were produced by American breeders and add some of the traits cultivated by European breeders.

What popularity can mean

Popularity can of course, be harmful and a rising popularity can have its dangerous side. We have reputables breeders, who have our breed very much at heart. They do all they can to ensure that the quality of puppies breed and sold is of the very highest but the fact must be faced, that there are some less-reliable breeders, who see in the popularity of a breed, the opportunity to make easy money by selling very inferior stock.

The breeder who spends time studying the anatomy and points of perfection for the breed, generally knows his or her own particular line to a fine degree and takes tremendous care that, in every successive generation, there will be an improvement in his stock, so that it approaches ever nearer to the ideal miniature schnauzer. This is done by careful selection and appraisement of both the stud dog and the bitch, so that the bad points may be aradicated and the good points of the line carefully improved.

This is not so in the case of puppymills. for here so often, any stud dog is used irrespective of his quality and faults in relation to the bitch. Thus bad faults are doubled-up and firmly stamped in also the stamina suffers for the bitches are bred from, time and time again. But you can see many breeders who has their farms and dogs with big success but schnauzers have health problems and so on.  Some of these so-called breeders breed their poor bitches every heat cycle, thus turning them into "puppy factories". Their only purpose for this is to make money off of the unsuspecting public. A puppy mill isn't necessarily comprised of forty or more dogs; it can even be a place with only three dogs if their only purpose for being is to make puppies to sell.

Be aware that having a well-written and possibly appealing web site in no way guarantees the quality of the dogs a person might have for sale. There are instances of both puppy farms and unethical, unknowledgeable breeders with, in some cases, award-winning web sites on the Internet. Watch to see how often they are having puppies. Beware the "high-volume" breeder! Reputable breeders usually only have one-five litters a year, not 3-5 litters in a two-week period. Unfortunately, it is up to you, the buyer, to sort through these "facts".

My definition of a puppy farm is anyone whose primary motive for breeding is money - including some in the fancy - whether he breeds one litter a year or one hundred. We have schnauzers as companions, they are not livestock and should not be bred or raised as such.
