1. Shape of Water – Disney+ Hotstar
A film that blurs the line between reality and fantasy, Guillermo Del Toro’s Shape of Water tells us the story of Elisa, a lonely janitor who stumbles upon an amphibious creature held captive in a secret research facility. She then begins to develop a unique relationship with the creature, and how that affects the people around her is what Shape of Water is all about. Although this is a slow burn of a film, the story is about love and how it still finds its way against all odds. A tearjerker of a film.
2. Raavan – Lionsgate Play
Directed by Mani Ratnam, Raavan is filled with really good visuals and impressive performances that will keep you hooked on the film. The story follows a bandit who lives in nature. He kidnaps a local police officer’s wife and falls in love with her. He lets her go only to realize that she has also fallen in love with him. But the police officer tries to use his wife as bait to catch the bandit. While the story might not necessarily be enough to make Raavan a good watch, the performances will keep you interested till the end.
3. This Is Us – Disney+ Hotstar
A story about the Pearsons and how they overcome various odds in life to be where they are, This is us is the epitome of a family tearjerker that will tear you to pieces at the end of each episode. The show is emotional and touching and really makes you feel for the people around you. Mandy Moore, Sterling K Brown and Milo Ventimgilia all did a great job delivering this stunner to perfection.
4. The Raikar Case – Voot Select
A crime thriller that is sure to reel you in and keep you hooked throughout its tantalizing first season, The Raikar Case follows a wealthy family whose youngest son is found dead under mysterious circumstances. While the first signs were suicide, the case is thrown wide open when the police rule out that possibility and suddenly everyone in the family is investigated. The Raikar Affair stars talented actors like Parul Gulati, Neil Bhoopalam and Atul Kulkarni.
5. Usthad Hotel – Disney+ Hotstar
Aspiring to become a chef, Faizal secretly enrolls in a culinary course and is cut off from his family when his father realizes he is not taking a management course to take over the family business. Faizal now moves in with his grandfather, who runs a small but very popular beach restaurant, and learns the tricks of the trade as he tries to save the restaurant from the hoteliers. Usthad Hotel is a culinary masterpiece of filmmaking and its sequences involving food, even if it is them making tea are a joy to watch.
