A 54-year-old Massachusetts man died from injuries he received in a two-vehicle crash in Boston overnight, state police said. At 11:54 p.m., state police, Boston Fire, Boston EMS and Boston police responded to the area of 820 Truman Highway in the city’s Hyde Park neighborhood, where they found a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle and a 2014 Hyundai Sonata in the northbound lanes. Investigators said the Volkswagen was traveling south when the driver lost control, rotated and crossed the median strip and entered the inbound lane, where it was struck by the oncoming Hyundai. The driver and sole occupant of the Volkswagen, a 54-year-old Norwood man, was seriously injured and died at the scene. His name was not released.The driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai, a 60-year-old Hyde Park man, was taken to Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain with non-life-threatening injuries.Troopers detected an odor of alcohol and observed several beer cans inside the Volkswagen, state police said. “Whether the operator of the Volkswagen was impaired at the time of the crash remains to be determined by the ongoing investigation,” state police said in a release. Troopers did not report any signs of intoxication in the driver of the Hyundai during their interaction with him.The crash remains under investigation.
