Disney+ to adapt CJ Sansoms Shardlake novels for a project. Recently, the company supports the collection of British originals. The shale is of course the headline of Doctor Who. Fans of the long-running series have been energized by the tidbits that have circulated from the upcoming season. But the excitement doesn’t stop there with the acquisition of Sansom’s Tudors detective. Operating during the time of Henry VIII, the eponymous Shardlake will try to crack mysteries among the highest rungs of society. It will be interesting to see how Disney approaches the material, as they are not the first to attempt to adapt these books. Back in 2007 the BBC tested Shardlake water and the cast Sir Kenneth Branagh in the lead detective role.
Deadline reports that the series will begin filming in the UK this year. In terms of a total run time, fans can look forward to four episodes. If there is interest, more can be customized. After all, Sansom has completed seven novels in Shardlake series. The first season will probably take shape Resolution, the first book featuring Dr. Matthew Shardlake. Robin Singleton, the commissioner responsible for dissolving monasteries, has been beheaded. It’s up to the detective to find out what’s going on and avoid danger himself by revealing the truth.
But what is Shardlake all about?
As for the novels, here’s how MacMillan describes the acclaimed author’s first book in the series: “England, 1537: Henry VIII has proclaimed himself Supreme Head of the Church, and the country awakens to brutal new laws, rigged trials and the largest network of informants ever seen. Under orders from Thomas Cromwell, a team of commissioners is sent across the country to investigate the monasteries. There can be only one result: the monasteries must be dissolved. But on the Sussex coast, at the Abbey of Scarnsea, events have spiraled out of control. Cromwell’s Commissioner Robin Singleton, is found dead, his head severed from his body. His gruesome murder is accompanied by equally ghastly sacrileges—a black cock sacrificed on the altar, and the disappearance of Scarnsea’s great relic.”
“Dr Matthew Shardlake, barrister and longtime reformer, has been sent by Cromwell into this atmosphere of treachery and death. But Shardlake’s investigation soon forces him to question everything he hears, and everything he inherently believes… Resolution is the first book in this bestselling phenomenon, in which CJ Sansom creates both a stunning portrait of Tudor England and an unforgettable character in Matthew Shardlake.Follow Shardlake into the dark heart of Tudor England with the bestselling Dark Fire, Sovereign, Revelation, Heartstone, Lamentation and Tombland.”
