FRISCO, Texas – Four New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis student-athletes have made the Southland All-Academic Team which was released by the conference office on Thursday afternoon.
Espen Lagarde, Luke Joujan and Matthew Armbruster made it as First Team selections while Max Heinzel was a Second Team pick.
The quartet were vital parts of the Privateers’ success on the court as they led New Orleans to the first ever outright Southland regular season title. They also achieved great success in the classroom.
Lagarde and Heinzel both received their degrees in the most recently completed semester. Lagarde carried a 3.58 GPA as a Business Administration major. Heinzel accrued a 3.97 GPA also in Business Administration.
Lagarde won First Team All-Southland honors for the second consecutive season. He finished 12-5 on the year overall and 5-0 against Southland foes in singles.
Heinzel was 12-6 on his way to appearing on the All-Southland Team for a third consecutive year. He was a three-time selection in singles and a two-time selection in doubles in his Privateer career.
Joujan, who also made the First Team as a Business Administration major, has carried a 3.91 GPA through his first three academic years at New Orleans.
On the court, Joujan was 11-6 overall and 5-0 against Southland foes. He also earned All-Southland recognition in doubles after an 11-7 season while paired with Heinzel.
Matthew Armbruster also earned First Team honors. Armbruster has earned a 4.0 every semester at New Orleans while majoring in Biology.
Armbruster teamed up with Karim Al-Amin to a 12-6 record and an All-Southland selection in doubles for the 2023 season. He was one of six men who earned all-conference recognition, breaking a program record for one season since joining the Southland.
Pascal Lorieul of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was named Student-Athlete of the Year.
