The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has arrested a New Orleans man wanted by the New Orleans Police Department on armed robbery and carjacking charges. Sheriff James Pohlmann said Diamonds Eugene Jr., 19, was arrested in connection with the crimes. Eugene was booked Wednesday on two counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer, flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.Pohlmann said Eugene is accused of being a part of an armed robbery and carjacking in the 3800 block of Louisiana Avenue Parkway. Eugene then drove into St. Bernard Parish in a Ford F-150 and refused to stop when deputies tried to pull him over in Chalmette, according to Pohlmann. Pohlmann said Eugene then exited the truck in the 2700 block of Lyndell Drive in Chalmette with an assault-type rifle in hand and ran away. Deputies arrested him shortly after and took possession of his weapon. Eugene was taken to the St. Bernard Parish prison, where he was booked.
