Reservation Dogs season 3 is officially underway, although we’re still waiting for a clear idea of when we’ll see it.
The September 2022 renewal announcement was followed by words from FX president of original programming Nick Grad, who said in a statement: “Reservation Dogs continues its remarkable run with critics, fans and awards all recognizing the unparalleled brilliance of the series created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi.”
Co-creator/director/showrunner Harjo also added to the renewal buzz, adding: “I couldn’t be more proud of this show that I created with my friend Taika Waititi. It was born out of a conversation in Taika’s kitchen and has now made its way into the lives of people all over the world.
“The love for season two has been outstanding. Thanks to FX for ordering season three, excited to bring you more laughs and love from the Rez. Ahoooo!”
If you’re not quite on board, Reservation Dogs follows four indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma who dream of moving to California, but to do so they must steal, commit crimes and save money while juggling life and society.
The coming-of-age series is not only a triumph of Indigenous representation on TV for both cast and crew, but it’s been a hit with critics and viewers alike – so it comes as no surprise that another season is on the way.
But what can we expect from season 3 and when can we expect it? Here is everything you need to know. (Warning: spoilers for both seasons of Reservation Dogs to follow.)
Reservation Dogs Season 3 Potential Release Date: When Can We Expect Reservation Dogs Season 3?
As mentioned above, Reservation Dogs season three has been confirmed, but we’re still waiting for an official release date.
The first and second seasons premiered on Hulu in the US in August 2021 and 2022, respectively. If this release pattern continues, we expect to see the third season hit the streaming platform in August 2023.
For fans in the UK and Ireland, seasons one and two became available to watch on Disney+ a few months after they premiered in the US, so it’s likely that season three will follow and arrive on the streamer in late 2023/early 2024.
Watch this space and we’ll let you know as soon as we know anything more definite.
Reservation Dogs Season 3 Cast: Who’s Coming Back for Reservation Dogs Season 3?
We will, Reservation Dogs just wouldn’t be right without the central Res Dogs themselves – Devery Jacobs (who plays Elora Danan) D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Bear), Lane Factor (Cheese) and Paulina Alexis (Willie Jack) – so it’s a pretty safe bet they are all back for round three.
And if so, we can probably expect the following cast members to return alongside them:
• Elva Guerra as Jackie
• Sarah Podemski as Rita
• Zahn McClarnon as Officer Big
• Dallas Goldtooth as Spirit
• Lil Mike as Moses
• Funny Bone as Mekko
One character not returning for season three is Elora’s grandmother, Mabel (Geraldine Keams), who died halfway through season two. If Mabel somehow appears, it will most likely be in the form of flashbacks.
Reservation Dogs Season 3 Plot: What Will Happen in Reservation Dogs Season 3?
The gang finally made it to California in the season two finale, which according to Harjo brings the main core of seasons 1 and 2 to a close and begins a “new chapter” for season 3.
“Next season what they’re dealing with will change to something else,” he said Vulture. “Daniel will always be there, but it’s been a year. The hard part of the grief feels like it’s getting to a place where they’ve moved through it.”
Regardless of the direction it takes, Season 3 will continue to offer new insights into the real-life experiences of Indigenous people. “I think it’s very new to portray indigenous communities in this way,” Waititi said.
“What we tend to be portrayed as is someone running their hands through the wheatgrass and getting their answers from the wind. I never did that. I don’t know any ghosts, and I don’t talk to trees.”
Reservation Dogs Season 3 Trailer: Any Reservation Dogs Season 3 Footage Yet?
No trailer yet, we’re afraid, but as soon as there’s some new footage to show, you can watch it here. For now, enjoy the season two trailer above.
Reservation Dogs sent on Hulu in the United States and Disney+ in Great Britain.
